Mercer FC Girls show well at National Elite Womens Showcase
Mercer FC Girls showed well at the National Elite Womens Soccer Showcase (NEWSS) in Long Island on Thanksgiving weekend. The College Showcase tournament attracts some of the top talent from the East coast as well as the strongest teams from Canada.
The U13 Spurs (pictured) ended as finalists won their group after overcoming competition from New York (LaGrange and PTSA) and Eastern Penn, narrowly losing out 1-0 in the final 5 minutes of an entertaining game against Yankee United of CT.
The U15 Magic playing in the Elite group ended up as semi finalists after solid victories against FC Revolution of PAE and local team Albertson Fury only to come up short in a 1-0 loss to highly ranked Toms River Everton.
The girls can be proud after representing their club well once again at such a prestigious event.
PSG capped off a fine first season together by winning the MSSL Fall Challenge tournament.
Resolute defending saw the boys not concede a goal all weekend in their four games with payback wins over EDP rivals Burlington and FC Maximus.
The final saw us matched against a skilled South Plainfield team however the PSG boys controlled the game and eventually came out 1-0 winners to add to our tournament success in Baltimore earlier in Ocotober.
Mercer FC Milan opened their fall campaign with a strong showing at the Lou Ramos Tournament in Allentown, PA, finishing the tournament as semifinalists after recording two victories and one loss.
The game one loss (1-4) was to the eventual tourney winner, Beachside of Connecticut. Although we struggled in the first half, it was in the second half of this game that you could see the Milan style of play take form; culminating in a confidence building goal as we headed into our next two games.
By games two and three, the Milan boys had found their rhythm, carrying the play in defeating EDP rivals Manalapan Nitro (3-2) and Manhattan Fury (1-0) to finish the Lou Ramos tournament on a high note.
Next up is our home opener vs. MatchFit Summit on 9/14/14 at 10:00 a.m. We look forward to the challenge!

Mercer FC Spurs U13G - FC Stars of Mass
Mercer Spurs had a great weekend up at the number one Nationally ranked FC Stars of Mass tournament held in Boston, Massachusetts.
Spurs opened up group play with a spirited defensive display resulting in a 0-0 tie against the highly ranked World Class Academy from New York, followed up with a 1-0 win over NJ Crush, leaving us top of the table at close of play on Saturday night.
Sunday saw us matched up against the number 2 team in New Hampshire, Global Premier Soccer, the girls came out tough with a 2-1 win with goals from Kelli and Amanda seeing us safely into the final.
We then went on to contest a very close game in the final, where we played local club the Boston Breakers. Our girls dominated large passages of play but ended up narrowly losing 2-1 to a PK in the final 3 minutes of play. The girls played hard and got progressively better as the weekend went on, this sets us up nicely for our EDP league campaign.
Great job girls, looking forwards to a great season!
